Fan art, front and center

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Look! More fan art! And it's all absolutely lovely as usual. Really, what else could I expect? For example, this picture of Emmeline, painted in Photoshop CS2 by Naomi from Australia:

Emmeline from Naomi (age 16), Australia

And this series of Seven Skary Sins by Ashley from Canada:

Seven Skary Sins - Wrath, from Ashley (age 23), Canada Seven Skary Sins - Sloth, from Ashley (age 23), Canada Seven Skary Sins - Pride, from Ashley (age 23), Canada Seven Skary Sins - Luxury, from Ashley (age 23), Canada Seven Skary Sins - Greed, from Ashley (age 23), Canada Seven Skary Sins - Gluttony, from Ashley (age 23), Canada Seven Skary Sins - Envy, from Ashley (age 23), Canada

And much more over on the fan art page!

I'm in the middle of a new illustration that I can't wait to show you - that should be up by this weekend - and I'm still pondering how the Death and Elsie saga should end. I've also finished a rough sketch of War #3, so expect that soon!

Spotlight on Fan Art

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

First of all, thank you all so much for the views and comments and faves and stars and all of that goodness for The Mockingbird Song last month! You're all wonderful, but you knew that. Or if you didn't, you know it now. ;-)

Speaking of how wonderful you all are, please take a moment to explore the Fan Art gallery! There have been a ton of new images added, and they're just spectacular. Just a few examples for you:

Mack from Jersey City sent this picture of Casilda from ten years after the zombie apocalypse:

10 Years After from Mack (age 23), Jersey City

And the winner of the Skary Vacation Fan Art Contest is:

Friday, March 26th, 2010

From Liz (age 15), Brazil Click to enlarge!

From Liz (age 15), Brazil, who says, "Well, I thought my own country could be a wonderful place for a Skary vacation, so my artwork is in Rio and the kid is looking to the dead child she just buried in the sand, the parents looking for him behind. Kinda creepy, I think my grandma didn't like it, but I did. I used acrylic colors to paint it, hope you like my first Skary drawing :)"

Liz, you get your choice of any Skary print, signed by me. Check your email for details!

Of course, every entry I received was absolutely wonderful. I might be biased, but even so, we all got a good chuckle out of these as we were judging them. It was hard to make a choice! All the other entries are proudly displayed within the Fan Art gallery. Much applause for each of you!

There are many other new fan art submissions unrelated to the contest that have just been added to the gallery, so be sure to check 'em all out! They're really quite snazzy. (Is it appropriate to label drawings of wicked, deadly weaponry-toting little children as "snazzy"?)

Fan Art Contest!

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

I'm about to embark on a journey to NYC. When I return on Sunday, I intend to post all the fan art I've been late on posting before. But I could always use more! That's where you come in.

You have until 12am, Monday the 22nd to send me a Skary picture in any medium (digitally drawn, pencil, paint, Crayon, photo, whatever you like). But the theme, you see, is vacation. How would a Skary child enjoy a trip away from home? Send me your picture using the fan art form. Judging will take place all next week, and the winner will receive any print of his/her choice (signed, of course) from the Skary ImageKind store!

Rules (gotta have 'em):

  • Your artwork must be original and by you and you alone!
  • You must use a current email address when you submit your pic. Your email won't be shared with anyone, but I need a way to get in touch with you should you win!
  • File type must be jpg, gif or png. No bitmaps, please!
  • Entries will be accepted from anywhere in the world
  • Theme must be "Skary vacation"

Remember: the deadline is 12am, March 22nd, 2010. No exceptions!

CONTEST CLOSED
Winners to be announced soon!

New fan art plus Evelyn’s Puzzle Clue #5

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Go and look at all the new fan art! I've finally caught up on your submissions, and there's lots to see! For example, Kim from AR finally got her Neighbor Boy tattoo to keep her Emmeline tat company. I'm impressed, I don't know about you. (Oh, you're impressed too. Don't be bashful.)

Evelyn's puzzle is nearing completion. Only two more clues left! So far, every piece has been found by at least one person. I don't know if any one person has found them all together. Yes, it's hard, but you didn't think I wouldn't make you work for that original sketch, did you? ;-) Here's your fifth clue:

Find me where the memories flicker
How empty is the stream!
But if you add my name, it'll be much quicker
and there's more than it may seem.

Check back next Wednesday for the clue to the sixth piece. And don't forget the rules!

Childrin R Inked!

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Howdy, everypeople. I'm in the middle of drawing some illustrations for some something-or-other, but I wanted to remind you all not to forget Casilda's Hat Contest! I've already received a couple of entries, and they're pretty impressive. You just might have to flex your writing muscles on this one (by the way, I really hate that phrase. Don't make me say it again*). Oh, and speaking of Casilda's hat: No, you can't buy it! I've had a few joking offers but also a couple of serious, not-joking-at-all offers to pay for it and while the offer is lovely, there is only one way to get this hat. You know how.

There's a new crop of fan art on the site! All of it's great, so DO take a glance, especially at this one:

From Ashley (age 20), Alaska

Ashley in Alaska got that in California, which reminds of this one from Chanelle:

Emmeline Tattoo from Chanelle

Who else has a Skary tatto0? Send pictures!

That's all for now. I've fallen a little behind on my email, but I promise to answer a few more soon!

*I mean, really, what and where is the "writing muscle," anyway? Is it anywhere near the appendix? Because nobody likes the appendix. It smells funny, and it hogs the tetherball pole.

News about the cartoon but also some answers

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Hey and hello! I hope everyone had a happy Memorial Day weekend, even if you're not American. I spent mine writing, animating, and attending a barbecue where a horrible, terrible, awful children's version of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was played. (Where can I get a copy for myself?)

The upcoming cartoon is still underway and could take some time even though it's short, as I have other projects to work on. I'm not going to tell you when to expect it, but I guess I can tell you what it's about now that I'm sure I'm not going to change my mind. The working title (likely to be changed) is Masterpieces Explained. Sounds boring, I know, but it's the real story behind a very famous painting. (No, it isn't The Scream, and it's nothing by Dali). You all think you know the story behind this one, but I'm telling you now: you're wrong. Anyway, that's all I'm saying. You'll find out more soon.

Oh, a couple of notes... have you noticed there's a Facebook quiz now? Also, there's an easier way to send fan art.

All righty. Time to answer some emails. (more...)
