Evelyn’s Puzzle: Final Clue!

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

There was a crooked man, and he had something once,
and it bought him a folder containing all things
new,
within which was another for Evelyn's nickname,

which had a ping to it like
"pea ell cee oh!"

This is the final clue! Remember the rules!

New fan art plus Evelyn’s Puzzle Clue #5

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Go and look at all the new fan art! I've finally caught up on your submissions, and there's lots to see! For example, Kim from AR finally got her Neighbor Boy tattoo to keep her Emmeline tat company. I'm impressed, I don't know about you. (Oh, you're impressed too. Don't be bashful.)

Evelyn's puzzle is nearing completion. Only two more clues left! So far, every piece has been found by at least one person. I don't know if any one person has found them all together. Yes, it's hard, but you didn't think I wouldn't make you work for that original sketch, did you? ;-) Here's your fifth clue:

Find me where the memories flicker
How empty is the stream!
But if you add my name, it'll be much quicker
and there's more than it may seem.

Check back next Wednesday for the clue to the sixth piece. And don't forget the rules!

Evelyn’s Puzzle: Clue #4

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

A few people have already found this piece too, but that's all right. This one is easy. ;-)

Consider everywhere I go.
Look in the past and then you'll know.

Check back next Wednesday for the clue to the fifth piece. And don't forget the rules!

Evelyn’s Puzzle: Clue #3

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Someone has already found the piece for the clue I'm about to give you. I think that officially means the race is on.

And by the side the horned beast waits
with great displeasure on his face

'Tis he who'll take you to the spot

where all the words have been forgot

Find the treasure at its source

Look for a name - and the prize, of course.

Check back next Wednesday for the clue to the fourth piece. And don't forget the rules!

Evelyn’s Puzzle: Clue #2

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

go to The place where our every Word
Is spoken by the sialia bird,
be careful lest you fail, my friend;
These birds will carry you unto your end.
They'll wrap you up in silken suture
Exactly as they did the great sea creature,
but never mind this. come follow me...
look to the background. you will see!
fear not if it seems your skill is bleak.
for below the horizon Rests the gift you seek.

Check back next Wednesday, the 2nd, for the clue to the third piece. And don't forget the rules!

Puzzle Contest!

Evelyn's Puzzle

Evelyn likes jigsaw puzzles. She likes them more than anything else she knows! But Evelyn does not like her nanny. She hasn't liked any of her nannies, to tell the truth, but each one she dispatches is promptly replaced by another! Always the optimistic and resourceful tot, Evelyn decided perhaps it was time to find something she could like about her latest nanny, Mrs. Nattingbottom.

So, she made a puzzle out of the woman.

Unfortunately, Evelyn has lost all of the pieces! She needs your help finding and putting Mrs. Nattingbottom back together again. If she can't, Mother and Father will hire yet another nanny, and Evelyn will have to start all over again! Here's what you need to know:

  • Mrs. Nattingbottom's six pieces are scattered all over the web. Every Wednesday for six weeks, a new clue will be posted to help you find another piece.
  • Save each piece. When you've collected all six, put them together in your photo editing software of choice (or cut them out, tape them together and take a photo if you're an over-achiever) and email the completed puzzle to me using this form.
  • The first person to complete and send me the puzzle will win the original signed sketch of Evelyn and Mrs. Nattingbottom. There's only one!

Here's what else you need to know. Listen now; this is important:

  • The weekly clue is the only help you get!
  • All six of the pieces are out there somewhere, so you don't have to wait for the clues to find them. If someone manages to find them all before all the clues have been posted and sends me the completed puzzle, that person will win if he or she is the first. So, crank up your thinking motors. This is a race.
  • The winner will be announced on skary.net, Facebook and Twitter. If you don't see an announcement, the contest is still going.
  • DO NOT spoil the answers for anyone else before the contest ends. If you do, say, post any of the answers in a comment somewhere, you will be disqualified. No, you can't even hint.

The first clue will be posted this Wednesday, 11-18-09! So, study the rules, flex your fingers, eat a sandwich, finish your chores, put the kettle on and whatever else you need to do to get ready.

Finished already? Click here to send it.

Downloads and Photos and War (oh my?)

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Wow! The response to War #1 has been very positive. I must say I'm surprised you didn't all drag me off to the stocks after what happened in the first episode, but then I guess you wouldn't know how she got into that mess nor what happens after, would you? See, I planned it that way. Always thinking, that's me. Episode #2 is mostly penciled and ready for redrawing/coloring. I'd like to say it will be up next week, but don't take that to the market. Things have been a bit crazy around here with other projects.

Speaking of other projects, did you see? Well, did you? There's a new Downloads page! At the moment, it simply has a few Twitter backgrounds for your use, but there will be more downloads in the near future. As far as those Twitter backgrounds go, I've included the most requested characters for now. Are there any others you'd like to see?

In other news, the first place winner of Casilda's Hat Contest has received her hat. And look! She's taken pictures!

I think it works for her, don't you? Rena is also a model for House of Pomegranates, which I encourage everyone to check out.

In case you thought I'd forgotten, I'm still working on an animated short, and as soon as I can figure out how, there will be close captioning of some sort on the YouTube videos for the hard of hearing. I'm also putting that collage together. I've received a lot of wonderful photos, but I can definitely use more. Have you seen anything that reminded you of Skary? Send photos! There's no deadline, and the collage will be updated as long as I continue to receive pictures.

Okay, all right and what-have-you. That's the news. How about a few emails, eh? (more...)

Casilda’s Hat Contest Winners Announced

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The judges for Casilda's Hat Contest have spoken! Casilda's hat has found its master.

Teefs Close Up

To win this toothy hat, many of you submitted excellent stories explaining its origin. I suppose it's a cliche to say that choosing a winner wasn't easy, but it's true all the same: this was a tough one. So tough, in fact, that we've picked a first AND second place winner. "Well, get on with it!" you say. Oh, all right. If you insist.

In 1st place, winning the prized hat: "Casilda's Hat" by Rena

In 2nd place, winning a signed print of the El Despertar poster: An untitled work by Mike Kolachny (who wins bonus points for working in all those Skary references so deftly)

Congratulations, you two! If you haven't already, please send me your mailing addresses. And congratulations to everyone else as well! Each and every entry was wonderful in its own way. We thoroughly enjoyed reading them all! And now the winning entries: (more...)
